Contemporary
Modern dance emerged as a style which aimed to be radically different from classical ballet. It’s grounded and earthy and focuses on where movement originates from (“impetus”) with floor work and large range mobility. It is a concert style dance with fundamentals and techniques from influencers and dance artists such as Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Isadora Duncan, Ted Shawn, Katherine Dunham and Lester Horton and many many others. Modern dance has evolved into various style of contemporary dance which became known in the 1950’s. Recently contemporary has gained popularity with it’s presence on TV shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance”, “World of Dance” and “America’s Got Talent”.
